Turn On Google Classroom Guardian Summaries

Did you know that parents/guardians can receive a summary of their child’s activity in your Google Classroom? However, teachers need to enable this feature. Parents/Guardians DO NOT receive direct access into your Google Classroom. They receive regular, automatic email summaries for each of their students. Guardians choose the frequency of the emails—daily or weekly—and can unsubscribe at any time. (Example below)

Guardian email summaries include:

Missing work—Work that’s late at the time the email was sent
Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails)
Class activity—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers

This summary can be very beneficial for helping parents keep their student on-track and we highly recommend that teachers enable this feature.

To enable Guardian Summaries, follow these instructions in each of your classes:

  • Click the class and then click Settings.

  • If guardian summaries aren’t already turned on, click Turn On
